Classification of sources 


Point sources 


Those sources which can be identified as a single location are called Point sources.

Example of point sources are , industrial effluents ,power plant and sewage discharge etc.

It is possible to minimise the water pollution from the point sources if the waste of water is collected and is given some treatment before it is discharged into a water body.

Non point sources   


The discharge from this sources is not at any particular site, rather these sources are scattered ,which individually or collectively pollute water.
